R&D NESTER PARTICIPATES IN THE LAUNCH OF FLEXITRANSTORE PROJECT

 

The kick-off meeting of the project FLEXITRANSTORE (An Integrated Platform for Increased FLEXIbility in smart TRANSmission grids with STORage Entities and large penetration of Renewable Energy Sources) was held in Athens (Greece) last 2 e 3 of November, in which R&D Nester has participated as member of the consortium.

The project was funded by the European Commission in the framework of the H2020 program. FLEXITRANSTORE has 28 partners, from 13 countries (Belgium, Greece, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, Cyprus, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Albania and Slovenia) and will last for 4 years.

FLEXITRANSTORE aims to contribute to the evolution towards a pan-European transmission network with high flexibility and high interconnection levels. This will facilitate the transformation of the current energy production mix by hosting an increasing share of renewable energy sources. Novel smart grid technologies, control and storage methods and new market approaches will be developed, installed, demonstrated and tested introducing flexibility to the European power system. The FLEXITRANSTORE project intends to promote flexibility throughout the entire value chain.

FLEXITRANSTORE will promote increased cross-border electricity flows using the valorization of flexibility services. The project takes both a national and a regional approach, acknowledging the need to seamlessly integrate national markets, particularly in the South Eastern European network, which still lacks the high interconnectivity that the rest of the European network has.

The main contributions of R&D NESTER for this project will be on the quantification and value of network flexibility and use of its Real-Time Power System Simulation Laboratory (RTPSS Laboratory - http://www.rdnester.com/en-GB/lab/) for the development and testing of models.
